Dr. Abbie Vandivere is a paintings conservator at the Mauritshuis. She graduated with a BA from Princeton University (USA, 2001), a Pg. Dip. Cons. from the Courtauld Institute of Art (UK, 2005), and a PhD from the University of Amsterdam (UvA, The Netherlands, 2013). She also coordinated and taught within the Technical Art History MA program at the UvA between 2014 and 2022. From 2018-2020, Abbie was the head researcher for the technical examination of Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring (ca. 1665). The media exposure from this project led to her to be nominated for the Dutch ‘Woman in the Media 2020’ award. Currently she is examining and restoring ‘De Stier’ (De Bull) by Paulus Potter at the Mauritshuis. She is also a member of the scientific committee of NICAS (Netherlands Institute for Conservation+Art+Science+), and the editorial boards of Oud Holland and Heritage Science.

In March 2021 Vandivere recorded a lecture on canvas support for paintings especially for the masterclass. The lecture is available through this subpage on our website: Lecture 3: March 2021 – Abbie Vandivere
